The story wove in so many new threads while keeping us on the edge of our seats to see what happens with Elloren’s fated prophecy and her relationship emotional turmoil. These lovely images are less and less able to hold onto my mind as the tide of darkness comes sweeping back. A lot of the magic is internal battles of will and I find those so powerfully done. Elloren’s magic is so connected to the important relationships in her life, that it’s always an emotional roller coaster. I loved and hated the magic in this book. I did not do a reread of the previous books before jumping into this and while there were a lot of characters that I was a little fuzzy on, the narration and story telling was such that with each new character, any blanks were immediately filled in.
